Managing Talent Is Managing a Portfolio

Toluwalase Benjamin Eniola9 May 20264 min read

A creative career looks like a calendar from the outside and a portfolio from the inside. Calendars fill. Portfolios compound or get diluted.

Most early-career damage is not caused by bad deals. It is caused by too many acceptable ones: partnerships that pay this quarter and cost the brand two years of positioning.

So the manager's real product is judgement. Protect the artistic centre. Diversify the revenue around it through licensing, IP, teaching, product and equity. And build the unsexy back office: contracts, rights, reporting and tax.

Do that consistently and something quietly powerful happens: the creator stops negotiating from need and starts choosing from strength.
